Press Release Summary: The Order of the Arrow gives young teenage boys the
opportunity to learn leadership, and these teens are planning and carrying out a
large annual conference while the adult leaders just look on.

Press Release Body: Delta, Utah - Many organizations pay professionals to organize
and run their annual conferences, but this event is entirely planned and carried out
by a group for teenage boys, some as young as 12 years old.

The Order of the Arrow is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America,
and each year the members gather for a weekend conference of fun and learning. The
regional event will attract hundreds of boys from many states, and it is entirely
organized and run by the boys themselves.

Plans for the event were announced by the Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow
Section W5D, which will be held at the Intermountain Power Facility Man Camp,
located adjacent to the Intermountain Power Generating Station north of Delta on
April 25 - 27.

Membership in the Order of the Arrow is not an award. Boy Scouts who live by the
Scout Oath and Law, have achieved at least the rank of First Class and have at least
15 days and nights of camping as a scout are eligible to be elected to the honor by
the members of their troop, according to Samuel Fife, 17, W5D section chief from
Pingree, Idaho.

"A smaller percentage of boys receive this honor than attain the rank of Eagle
Scout. The boys are taught leadership skills and participate in large service
projects that benefit Boy Scout camps and local communities. The boys learn by
doing. This is a boy led organization," said assistant chief David Engh,17, a
student at Alta High School in Sandy, Utah.

Plans for the event are still underway, but include instruction, spiritual uplift,
and "plenty of fun," according to Fife. He has been involved in organizing and
planning this event with his staff of other young men for almost a full year.

Events and activities will take place from Friday through Sunday. There will be
instruction in various popular scouting activities, leadership training, and other
programs to help the young men improve their skills. There are over 85 classes for
classes and activities for them to attend.

The Boy Scouts of America sponsor Order of the Arrow lodges in each council
throughout the United States. The country is broken up into Sections of several
lodges. Section W5D is made up of members from the Great Salt Lake Council (Salt
Lake area), Utah National Parks Council (southern Utah), Trapper Trails Council
(northern Utah and part of Wyoming), and Grand Teton Council (southern Idaho).
Guests are also expected to attend from several other states as well.
